At 5 pm on Friday enjoy the start of the Festival with the parade of Marshals followed by the prince, princess, Jr. Miss and Queen Pageant contest and the Jr. and Sr. Farm King contests along with the Sour Prune Jr. and Sr. contests. A street dance follows the contests.
Saturday morning there will be the Baby, Lil Miss and Mister Tiny Tot, and Lil Miss and Mister Pageants beginning at 9 am. A car and bike ride will start at 9 and return at 2 pm for a parade followed by more entertainment. A chicken and fish fry will be held from 4 pm – 7:30 pm or until food runs out. Other food and refreshments will be available throughout the day. There will live entertainment beginning at 6 pm. There will be craft vendors and flea market booths both days.

The Pike County Fair features all the attractions normally associated with county fair. Features are top rated society horse shows, tractor pulls, pageants, and carnival attractions. The weekend also features live entertainment and a talent show on Saturday and a mud bog on Sunday.

For more than 25 years Pittsfield has celebrated Pike County’s large pork industry with their annual Pig Days festival. In honor of the pig there are activities such as longest pig tail contest and hog calling contests. There are arts and crafts, kids games, and live entertainment. And as you would expect, food stands offer some tasty pork specialties.

The Griggsville-Perry FFA will have its annual greenhouse plant sale Friday, May 1, 3:30 pm to 5:30 pm and Saturday, May 2, 9 am to 12 pm. Additional dates will be announced next week. Large assortments of annuals, vegetables, and hanging baskets. Proceeds go to support Griggsville-Perry FFA Leadership Programs.

Pikeland District #10 Preschool, Early Childhood and PACT Head Start programs free vision, hearing and developmental screening is March 3-6 at Pittsfield United Methodist Church. Screening, along with parent information determines eligibility for these programs.
Parents of children 2 1/2 – 4 years of age, who live in Pikeland Unit #10 district are invited to schedule a developmental screening appointment. PACT Head Start serves limited income families. If you feel your child may be eligible for this program, bring proof of income and proof of child’s birth date. Tax returns for 2014, W-2’s and/or check stubs serve as income verification. Birth certificate, medical card or immunization record verifies birth.

On Tuesday, December 16 beginning at 6 pm, the Tornadoes will play at home vs Pittsfield. Admission will be a toy to donate for the G-P Toy Drive to benefit the Griggsville-Perry School District Christmas Families. One adult or child admission free per toy. Also on that night, Team Impact will hold it’s annual Cookie Walk from 3:30 pm until the end of the game.

Art Speaks, the loudest silent auction you will ever attend, is November 24 – December 6 at Free Press Coffee Shop in Pittsfield with original pieces made by Mrs. Davidsmeyer’s art classes. Winners will be announced December 6. Proceeds go to the PHS Art Program.
