Western High School to present “Crumpled Classics” by Craig Sodaro – Nov 6-7 – Barry, IL

Western High School to present “Crumpled Classics” by Craig Sodaro.

A quirky cadre of students take it upon themselves to pull together the school’s annual “Classics on Parade,” acting out famous stories that they studied in their literature class. The students, however, decide to make the stories relevant to today’s audiences, with hilarious results! Romeo and Juliet set in a fast food place! Frankie Stein trying to assemble the perfect prom date! A second rate theatrical agent becoming the Phantom of the Opera so he can force a good deal! A desperate Shirley Holmes and Joni Watson jump-starting a new detective agency! And teenage slacker Artie surprising his unimpressed mother with a sword he pulled from a stone!

The cast includes: Madaline Thompson, Rachel Snyder, Austin Simmerman, Andrew Conley, Paige Snyder, Mariah Goodwin, Ashley Gratton, Kaitlyne Kindle, Shelbie Hubbard, Noah Depke, Jordan Flynn, Marissa Osienger, Easton Carlen, MaKenna Myer, Kenadee Walker, Emma Raftery, and Amber Swartz

Preformances are Friday, November 6th and Saturday, November 7th at 7:00 p.m. at the Western High School Gym. Tickets will be sold at the door – $5.00 for adults and $3.00 for students. Concessions and 50/50 raffle will be sold.

PHS Homecoming Parade Marshal Nominations Needed

PHS Student Council decided last year it would be a neat component to the annual Homecoming Parade to include a parade marshal who has the special honor of leading the parade as it travels from the high school to the court house square.

Last year the first ever parade marshal was Carolyn Casteel, and she possessed many qualities we are looking for to be the perfect parade marshal. This year we would like to ask the faculty, students, and the community for their input on who should lead our 2015 Homecoming parade. Individuals nominated should be actively involved in the Pikeland School District supporting extracurricular activities and athletics.

Please email your nomination to: mldavidsmeyer@pikeland.org or call 217-285-6888 by September 10.

Western Drama Fundraising through Donor’s Choose

The Western Drama Club is utilizing the website Donor’s Choose to raise funds for new wireless microphones. Donor’s Choose is a website that educators use to fund projects for their classrooms and schools. Western Drama Club’s goal is to raise enough money to buy two new wireless headset microphones to be used during their annual play and musical. Currently, the club rents microphones for the different productions. However by investing in this sound equipment, the club will be able to cut cost over time.
