The Positive Parenting Program – Sept 17, 24 & Oct 1, 8, 15, 22 – Pittsfield, IL

Hobby Horse House and Tracy Foundation presents The Positive Parenting Program.

Parenting is the most important and challenging job you will ever have!  All parents have questions and concerns about their own parenting skills.  The Positive Parenting Program is excited to share evidence-based practices to enhance parenting and nurturing skills, using curriculum from the Nurturing Parenting Program.

This class is free open to any parent wanting to enhance their own parenting skills and share some of their struggles and accomplishments.  We are excited to offer this course and assist parents in skill-building, utilizing support and discussing how to nurture themselves and their children throughout their lives.

Next class sessions will be held on:  September 17, 24 & October 1, 8, 15, 22.  All classes are on Thursday afternoons and include daycare and lunch/snacks.  Transportation is available for those within the Pike County, IL area.

Vendor’s Market – May 9 – Pittsfield, IL

Don’t forget to support your local vendors and farmers market this Saturday from 11:00 to 3:00 located at Nucci’s Pasta House of Pittsfield. Lots of great Mother’s Day gifts to be had!! There will be jewelry, Tupperware, pampered chef, and more. Why not show support for these great people and have fun doing it as well! We will also be open on the patio for lunch as well, and, we are still accepting more farmers with their fresh produce and vendors as well. And it is free! Just need to supply your own tables. PHS Art Show – May 8 & 10 – Pittsfield, IL

PHS Art Club will host the PHS Art Show on Friday, May 8 from 3:30 pm to 5:00 pm and Sunday, May 10 from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm.  Come check out the work from these amazing artists!

Vendor’s Market Returns to Nucci’s – Pittsfield, IL

Come shop locally!  Large variety of items, new and used.  Local homegrown produce will be available.  Vendors and garage sale individuals wanted!  Every Saturday in front of Nucci’s Pasta House, 231 N. Check out some Pike Co, IL History! – May 2 – Pittsfield, IL

If you missed seeing Snyder’s barn last year, you will have an opportunity Saturday, May 2 to view the hundreds of Pike County artifacts in this huge collection.  The Snyder family will have the barn items on display from 10 am to 4 pm.  The East School Museum, Shastid House, and Pike County All Wars Museum will also be open.

IDNR Offers Opportunity for Youth Turkey Hunters – Deadlines Feb 27

Thanks to a $1.7 million grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Natural Resources Conservation Service, Illinois Department of Natural Resources is able to provide additional access for youth turkey hunters this spring.  Through the Illinois Recreational Access Program (IRAP), IDNR is accepting applications from young turkey hunters to hunt on private land on sites in 28 counties throughout Illinois.

Youth under age of 16 who have passed a hunter safety course are eligible to apply for spring youth turkey season as well as regular spring turkey seasons 3 and 4.  Deadline to apply is February 27 for youth seasons.  Applicants applying for Youth Turkey Season will need to download an application at: and return it to IDNR prior to February 27, 2015.  Successful applicants will be notified where their hunting site is located.  Hunters also will be given a map and an IRAP permit allowing them to hunt on the specified private property.  Youth hunters will also need to get an over-the-counter IDNR youth turkey permit once they receive their IRAP permit.


Illini Community Hospital Open House – Feb 5 – Pittsfield, IL

Illini Community Hospital will celebrate the opening of the new Consulting Physician Clinic, Outpatient Services and Oncology areas with an Open House scheduled for Thursday, February 5th from 4-6 pm.  The public is encouraged to attend.  Those planning to attend the Open House event are asked to enter the hospital through the main lobby entrance off of Washington Street.  Staff members and volunteers will be on hand to escort visitors to the new area.  Light refreshments will be served.

IDNR Hunter Safety Course – Feb 26 – Nebo, IL

Illinois Department of Natural Resources Hunter Safety Course is February 26, 6-9 pm and February 28, 8 am – 4 pm at the Nebo D.O.G. House, 163rd South Main St, Nebo.  Lunch will be served at Saturday session.

Pre-registration is required.  The first 60 people to register will only be accepted, due to space limitations.  Call Bill Graham, 217-242-5589 or Scott Campbell, 217-734-2395 for more information or to register.  Must be present for both sessions and complete and pass a written test given on Saturday.
